The Parish Council have been working with Historic England (English Heritage), the South Ainsty Archaeological Society and local residents to create a trail round all the sites of historic significance or interest in Copmanthorpe. This has developed into a project to establish a Heritage Trail for the village.
Between us we have established over forty sites but now we need the help of residents to confirm the details we have, or otherwise, and hopefully to provide additional information.
Please let us have any information you feel would help to make this record more complete and accurate before we move on to the next step.
We plan to have an ‘interpretation board’ in the centre of the village describing all the sites along with a map. If possible we hope to include a place for the last remaining wooden beam surviving from the old Manor House. We also plan to make leaflets available for people to follow the trail around the village sites and provide learning opportunities for school children and others. We also plan to have a website to provide all the printed information and even more detail together with the recently digitised photographic archive of the village.
With your help this should become a major resource for the village for many years. Funding has already been provided from City of York Council Ward funds and the Parish Council so we are only waiting for information from residents, please help.
To send us information please use the downloadable feedback form (see below), the ‘contact us’ form on the right or email firstname.lastname@example.org
